What this means
Qatar family sponsorship turns on three things: your salary, your housing, and your profession. For family residence, government and semi-government sponsors need QAR 10,000 a month — or family housing provided in the contract. Private-sector sponsors need QAR 10,000 without employer housing, but only QAR 6,000 when family housing is written into the contract (a cash housing allowance does not count). Private-sector jobs must be technical or specialised, not labour category, and your salary is verified through the Wage Protection System. For a family visit, the bar is lower: QAR 5,000 a month and a non-labour profession — but parents and siblings typically need a QAR 10,000 sponsor salary, and only married residents may sponsor beyond spouse and children.
Worked examples
Example 1: private sector, salary QAR 8,000, family housing in the contract, technical job, wife and children (oldest son 20, daughters unmarried), insurance arranged. With housing in the contract the private threshold is QAR 6,000 — QAR 8,000 clears it → eligible for family residence.
Example 2: family visit, salary QAR 7,500, but a manual-labour job. Salary clears the QAR 5,000 visit minimum, yet the profession fails the MOI's non-labour condition → not eligible for a visit visa.
Next steps
- Get your Qatar ID first if you do not hold one — you cannot sponsor without it.
- Apply via the Metrash app or an MOI service centre.
- Prepare attested certificates — marriage and birth certificates, attested as required.
- Arrange health insurance for every family member, and school enrolment for children aged 6–18.

What salary do I need to sponsor my family for residence in Qatar?
Government and semi-government sponsors need at least QAR 10,000 a month, or employer-provided family housing written into the contract. Private-sector sponsors need QAR 10,000 a month without employer housing, or QAR 6,000 a month when family housing is written into the contract. A cash housing allowance does not count as employer housing.
Does a housing allowance count as employer-provided housing?
No. Only family housing actually provided by the employer and written into your contract counts. A cash allowance paid to you does not lower the QAR 10,000 threshold.
Which family members can I sponsor?
Your spouse; sons up to age 25; and daughters only if they are unmarried. Children aged 6–18 must be enrolled in a licensed school in Qatar (or their enrolment abroad must be recorded on the Ministry of Education platform) for the residence permit. Health insurance is mandatory for every family member.
What are the rules for a family visit visa?
The sponsor needs a salary of at least QAR 5,000 a month and a non-labour profession, plus visitor health insurance. Parents and siblings usually need a sponsor salary of at least QAR 10,000, and only married residents may sponsor relatives beyond a spouse and children.
How is my salary checked?
Through the Wage Protection System — officials compare your contract salary with your actual bank transfers. Use your real contract salary in this checker, and apply via the Metrash app or an MOI service centre.
